Treatment Talk Monthly Message – August 2011

Welcome to the first Treatment Talk monthly newsletter. This is a new monthly message where I give you an update on one or two things happening in the recovery world, a little inspiration and our previous month’s posts.

National Recovery Month

September is observed throughout the country as National Recovery Month, in hopes to educate Americans on addiction treatments and mental health services, and give the message that services can help lead any persons struggling with addictions or mental health issues back to a healthy and rewarding life. Remember and support those that are doing the hard work to seek and stay in recovery.

A Little Inspiration:

“When we feel an inner emptiness, we are less inclined to make the difficult decisions of life and may be tempted to seek “easy” solutions to problems. This “quick fix” approach to life is understandable, since learning to live fully takes time and patience. But the fact is, we can, and must, slow things down if we ever hope to face our own large and small challenges with aplomb and equanimity, on terms that are our own, guided by our purest hearts. We can choose to experience aliveness and become masters of our lives, keeping in mind that this awakening is always an “inside job.” Susan Smith Jones, MS, PhD

Last Month’s Posts:

Treatment Talk has several amazing guest posts this month. I’m testing students at my local school district this month, so wanted to have a little help with the September schedule. I hope you have found their awesome articles informative and inspirational.

Next week I’m off to yoga retreat for four days, and I am looking forward to some quiet reflective time to get centered and recharge. Retreats are a wonderful way to get away from your routine, clear your head and regroup. So many interesting and exciting ideas can come forth when we pull back and give our minds a rest. Have you tried a retreat lately? Retreats come in many flavors from an artistic to meditation retreat. They can offer a sanctuary of serenity for those seeking a revitalizing experience.

Some incredible articles are being planned for you here over the next couple of months.

As always, I really want to hear about your experiences and love hearing suggestions for how I can better help you at Treatment Talk.

If you have any feedback or questions, please leave a comment below and I will respond shortly.

Thanks for reading!  You have made this journey so fun and interesting. We are not alone and we can support each other. You all are amazing.

Be Well,

Cathy

      Hi Betsy,

I actually got the newsletter idea from another site and just tweaked it for Treatment Talk. Hopefully it will be a chance to communicate in a different way with my readers. Thanks for your comment.

  2. Cathy,

Great 1st Edition of your newsletter and terrific timing for Recovery Month. It is a busy month but one so ripe for spreading our messages of hope and healing.

    Good on You!!

    B Well,
    Beth

      Hi Beth,

Always interested in trying something new, but I like the concept, so we’ll see. Yes, September is a good month to remember those in recovery, and my hope is that the stigma will be lessened. Thanks for your comment.

  3. Hi Cathy,
It sounds like you have been busy and also have some nice peaceful time ahead of you. I think it is a good idea to get guest-posters who have gotten past their addictions. They add an authentic voice to your blog and credibility as well.

The website Ending The Grind is about Steve and his quest to get out of the 9 to 5 rat-race. All of his guest -posters are former 9 to 5 ers who have escaped the grind.

      Hi Justin,

I agree. I found some wonderful guest-posters for Recovery Month. They all have stories of inspiration and hope to share with us. It makes for more interesting reading to change it up a bit. I will definitely check out Ending the Grind. Sounds like Steve is on to something. Thanks for your comment.

  4. Hi Cathy,
Like the news letter. When it comes to retreat, I believe they are wonderful. We all need to take time to relax and get away, so we can regroup and this is a great way to do that.

Sounds like you a very busy and it does help when you have guest post and from people that have been there, wonderful idea. We all like to listen to REAL PEOPLE and winning stories.
    Blessing to you,

      Hi Debbie,

I love to have guest posts on the site. I agree that people like to read a different perspective or an interesting experience that possibly they can learn from. Thanks so much for your comment!

  5. What a great format for a newsletter. I appreciate you keeping us updated with what is happening in the treatment world.

Your inspiration point was brilliant. Easy answers are such tricky little beasts. They look so tempting but often add or just cover up the problem.

    Thanks again,

      Hi Bryce,

Thanks for your kind words. Trying out the new newsletter concept and I’m getting positive feedback, so I think this will be a good addition to my monthly posts. Yes, we many times do look for the easy way out, don’t we, and it often lead to heartache down the road. Appreciate your comment.
