It’s our last night in Washington DC. Really enjoyed our time here. There is so much to see and even for the amount of time we stayed, did not begin to cover it all. Being here over the Memorial Day weekend was very moving. We enjoyed the Memorial Day Concert on the Capitol Grounds and also the Memorial Day Parade on Monday. It does make me feel so grateful to be an American citizen. Heard about a charity called Back on My Feet while here.
It started in 2007, on the streets of Center City Philadelphia, by Anne Mahlum. The idea is that is promotes running for the homeless and helps them to move their lives forward. What a great idea! This is their mission statement:
“Back on My Feet is a nonprofit organization that promotes the self-sufficiency of homeless populations by engaging them in running as a means to build confidence, strength and self- esteem.”
Being a runner for many years myself, it is a great way to exercise and bring a new focus to your life. Small goals can turn into major accomplishments. My daughter, who is a recovering addict just finished a half marathon in May with her roommate and several of her friends. I am so proud of her and this wonderful accomplishment. She was never really interested in running until recently and just started training one day at a time.
