All people want to break their bad habits yet most of them fail to do so. Bad habits won’t only make your life worse but they will force you to live with a great amount of guilt as long as you are not quitting the habit.
I kept thinking of the ways that prevent people from breaking bad habits and I came up with some conclusions that can you help break your bad habits as well.
In this post I will tell you about 5 powerful ways to break bad habits:
Here is what you need to do to break these bad habits:
1. Avoid the triggers: When trying to break a habit most people focus on resisting the urge to do the habit instead of focusing on avoiding the triggers that cause this urge. For example instead of trying to resist the urge to smoke while sitting with your friends who smoke, try to avoid sitting with smokers for a while until the urge to smoke becomes weaker.
2. Fulfill the need: Behind every bad habit is an unfulfilled need. If you managed to find a way to fulfill such a need In a good way then you won’t feel like doing the bad habit. For example an internet addict might have turned this way because he needs to socialize online. If he managed to socialize in a better way he won’t feel like using the internet that much.
3. Find a good reason: many people want to break bad habits but aren’t really motivated to do it. This usually happens when they don’t have a good reason to quit. Once you start knowing more about the harmful effects of your bad habit, whether they are physical or psychological you will become more motivated to break it.
4. Choose a bad day: most people do the same mistake of trying to quit their bad habits on the days they feel really good but as soon as a problem happens that lowers their mood they return back to their bad habits. If you managed to quit your bad habit on a bad day then certainly you will be able to avoid doing it on the good day.
5. You don’t have to do it at the first attempt: many people lose hope and stop trying to quit their bad habits if they failed few times while in fact in most cases you won’t be able to break a bad habit before you try many times. Put this fact in mind and you won’t be disappointed. If you managed to quit the habit from the first attempt then this would be great and if you didn’t then you will still know that you can do it in the next attempt
